THE SPANISH LANGUAGE INSTITUTE
Since 1942, the Spanish Language Institute has helped over 16,000 individuals achieve the language skills needed to serve the Lord in the Spanish-speaking world. However, the Institute is much more than a language school. It is a wonderful place to help individuals and families transition from their home country to their future field of service, providing help with housing, on-campus pastoral counseling, recreational facilities, and the opportunity to build community with other like-minded individuals who are preparing for where God is calling them. In addition to these opportunities, there is an on-campus, bilingual children’s school, Sojourn Academy, available for those who have children.

Gordon and Debbie Crandell
We came to The Spanish Language Institute in our late 50s. Having not studied for many years, we wondered about our ability to learn a new language at our age. However, our fears were totally unfounded. God sent us to The Spanish Language Institute to be surrounded by loving teachers and a campus with strong, Christian community to see us through! The teachers provided us with the personal care and support we needed. The campus community and chapel services provided a flourishing spiritual environment that supported us while we adjusted to a new culture and language.
We now live and work in Costa Rica. The Spanish Language Institute provided us with the strong foundation in Spanish we will continue to build on in the years ahead.
I attended ILE as a gap-year from college for two trimesters from 2014-2015. I found the professors to be some of the most dedicated and godly people I have ever met, and that they invested in not only my Spanish language learning, but that also my spiritual walk was foundational in that season. I was privileged to attend with my brother Caleb. While at ILE we met friends who we are still close with to this day and made memories that are priceless. With the skills I gained at ILE I was able to test-out of all my language classes for college and later used my Spanish skills on a semester-long academic internship in Costa Rica in 2016, which involved working in ministry in a church plant. ILE is an amazing school and I am grateful for how the Father used and is still using my experiences there. Dios te bendiga!
I am thankful that I was able to study at the Spanish Language Institute! I not only learned a new language during my time here, but I also had the opportunity to meet extraordinary people from all different backgrounds that have a true heart for Christ and encouraged me throughout my time in Costa Rica. I recommend The Spanish Language Institute because it has been such a comfortable learning environment and I’ve especially enjoyed living with my host family and serving with local ministries.
Declaration of Faith
We believe that the Bible is a divinely inspired, unfailing, authority, and the inerrant Word of God. (2 Timothy 3:16,
2 Peter 1:21)
We believe that there is one God, who exists eternally in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit (Genesis 1:1, Matthew 28:19, John 10:30).
We believe in the deity of Christ (John 10:33), His virgin birth (Isaiah 7:14, Matthew 1:23, Luke 1:35), His life without sin (Hebrews 4:15, 7:26), His miracles (John 2:11), His sacrificial death (1 Corinthians 15:3, Ephesians 1:7, Hebrews 2:9), His resurrection (John 11:25, 1 Corinthians 15:4), His ascent to the right-hand of the Father (Mark 16:19), and His personal return in power and glory (Acts 1:11, Revelation 19:11).
