On the Air with the Foggs
On November 19, the Costa Rican radio station "Faro del Caribe" will be airing the second segment in a show featuring current students Eric and Renee Fogg (Class of 2012).
The Foggs wrote about the first segment on their blog:
Today was a real test of our Spanish skills or lack thereof! A week ago our pastor asked us if we would be willing to speak about the life of a missionary (not that we have much experience so far!) on his talk show, "Rumbas". This morning we received a list of questions to help prepare - we had
about an hour to do this.
If all the questions were followed exactly we would be fine--of course we all know that life does not work that way. Each segment, we taped 2, was supposed to last 20 minutes. We deliberately spoke for over 25 minutes knowing that the producer would have a lot of material to edit!
When we were done, we were exhausted. It took every ounce of our concentration to interpret the questions correctly and then form an answer. I also had to remain facing a certain direction as a young DJ was "rockin" to some Christian tunes in the next studio. A conference room was next door with a large glass window into the studio and several of the church members were present so we also had people waving to us.
We're not sure how the Lord will use this experience, but it sure was entertaining!

The last part of the show will air on "Faro del Caribe" November 19 at 1:15 for 20 minutes and can be listened to live at 97.1 FM in San Jose or www.farodelcaribe.org.
Chapel Service Brings Focus to Campus
Those who were in chapel this week will probably consider Scott Doherty’s message on the glory of Christ to be one of the highlights of the trimester. Using Revelation 5 as his text, Doherty looked at the exalted position of Christ and missions in light of that knowledge.
Scott's wife, Kim, shared her testimony with the Monday Women's Group the day before the chapel message and it was a rich time for the women on campus, as well. The Doherty family will be moving to Peru next year after 12 months of language study at the Institute. In the meantime, they are keeping track of their adventures in Costa Rica on their blog To The Ends of the Earth.
For those who missed chapel this week, the transcript follows:
Worthy is the Lamb (Revelation 5)
by Scott Doherty
John Dober and David Nitschman were two ordinary men that caught a glimpse of the worthiness of Jesus Christ as we see in Revelation 5. In 1732 they set out on a mission that they knew they would never come back from.
They were not going on a short term trip to Central America, South America or even Africa. They where on a boat with a one way ticket to a remote island that was owned by a slave trader.
The owner of this island full of slaves said that he would never allow a Christian missionary to ever step foot on his island because he didn't want his slaves to ever be inundated by the gospel.
So there was a dilemma: There was an island full of slaves that have never heard of the worthiness of Jesus Christ and who had absolutely no hope in salvation and there was a slave owner that would never allow the gospel to penetrate his prison island.

New Promotional Video Released
The Spanish Language Institute and Sojourn Academy are excited about the changes taking place on our campus! To tell a little bit about what is going on in Costa Rica, we just finished a short video that our staff will be showing in the States in the next couple of weeks, but you can be the first to check it out here!

It amazes me how far-reaching is the good reputation of ILE. I’ve met ticos from as far away as Alajuela who were familiar with the Institute. Lest it seem that there is not a commitment to Spanish, my tico mom (who has had experience with other language schools) told me “they really know what they are doing”. I’ve found this to be very true. The teachers are so knowledgeable and the class sizes create an ideal learning environment. The process and pace that the Institute provides is so considerate of the students involved. The teachers and authorities are so trustworthy and helpful.
