Paint Protects Gym Floor and Its Users
Question: Why would anyone use marine paint (worth over $100 a gallon) a hundred miles from the ocean or any other large body of water? Answer: To protect a gymnasium floor from crumbling and keep athlete's from slipping! |
||
It took 30 gallons of this green liquid used to protect ships and docks from salt water damage to cover the Institute's gym floor, which measures 4,860 square feet. Before painting, workmen treated the floor's seams to allow for expansion and contraction of the concrete and prepared the surface. The fun part for those who watched was seeing the red, white and blue lines being painted on top of the green background. These are the boundaries needed for the many soccer, basketball, and volleyball games played by children and adults on what is undoubtedly the most stepped-on, run-on, and jumped-on surface on campus! |

How long will the treatment last? "No one really knows" said Carlos Rojas, the Institute's Administrator and organizer of the project, but the paint company guarantees its product for three years. |
